SAM BACKNERMONTGOMERY COUNTY COMMUNITY ORGANIZER

Sam joined the Jews United for Justice Campaign Fund as a community organizer in 2026. Prior to joining the team, he worked in education as an Assistant Teacher and Substitute Teacher at Sidwell Friends School, supporting K–8 students across classrooms and helping maintain strong, inclusive learning environments.

Sam first became engaged with organizing through his work in education and social justice spaces, including his time as a corps member with Teach For America in Miami, where he taught and supported students in under-resourced communities. He holds a Master’s Degree from American University in Education Policy. Across his work, Sam has focused on building relationships, fostering community, and advancing educational equity, which continue to shape his commitment to racial and economic justice.

When not at work, you can find Sam exploring D.C.’s neighborhoods, traveling, or spending time with friends.
